Setelah sekian lama terdengar bahwa komputer Mac
aman- aman saja terhadap virus yang ada di dunia ini, baru – baru ini terdengar
kabar bahwa 600.000 komputer Mac terserang oleh Virus. Virus ini dikategorikan sebagai malware, dan virus ini dinamakan “Trojan
Flashback”.
Untuk memahami kekuatan Flashback itu, penting untuk
dicatat bahwa sebenarnya merupakan sebuah keluarga malware Mac OS X yang pertama kali dibuat pada
September 2011. Dirancang untuk menyamar
sebagai installer Adobe Flash Player menggunakan logo player Flash. Setelah
menginstal Flashback, malware mencari nama pengguna dan password yang disimpan
di Mac.
Perusahaan
pengungkap, Dr Web mengatakan sedikitnya 600.000 komputer Mac telah terinfeksi
dan berpotensi dibajak dan dijadikan "botnet" - komputer yang
fungsinya sebagai robot penyebar program jahat. Kebanyakan dari
komputer-komputer tersebut berada di Amerika Serikat, dan sebagian lainnya
berada di Kanada, Inggris Raya, dan Australia.
Dr Web
mengatakan, begitu trojan ter-instal, ia akan mengirim pesan
ke serverpengendali milik penyusup
dengan ID unik untuk mengidentifikasi komputer yang terinfeksi.
"Versi
sebelumnya untuk malware Flashback mengandalkan trik rekayasa sosial dan melakukan upaya
untuk mencuri informasi pengguna," ujar kepala ahli keamanan dari penyedia
perangkat lunak antivirus Kaspersky Lab, Alex Gostev seperti dilansir dari Mashable, Kamis (12/4/2012).
"Namun,
sampai saat ini varian terbaru yang dikontrol oleh botnet Flashfake hanya
digunakan untuk penipuan klik. Perbedaan utama adalah Trojan Flashback dapat
diinstal langsung ke komputer pengguna dengan memanfaatkan kerentanan
Java," tambahnya.
Versi
yang lebih baru dari malware tersebut mengeksploitasi
kelemahan yang ada dalam bahasa pemrograman Java. Tujuannya untuk memudahkan
program-program jahat diinstal dari situs-situs penipuan tanpa seijin pemilik
komputer.
Sementara
itu Apple yang mengetahui infeksi Trojan Flashback tersebut segera bertindak
denganmengembangkan tool untuk mendeteksi dan
menghapus Trojan yang telah menginfeksi lebih dari setengah juta komputer Mac.
Ini
merupakan pelajaran penting bagi setiap system operasi, bahwa tidak ada yang
aman di dunia ini. Sesuai
dengan motto para pembuat virus dan pembajak lainnya
yaitu “NSP (No system Perfect)”.

Note: These instructions only disable the malware. The overwritten XProtectUpdater files are irrecoverable.
- 1. Run the following command in Terminal:
defaults read /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Info LSEnvironment
- 2. Take note of the value, DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES.
- 3. Run the following command in Terminal:
defaults read /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/Info LSEnvironment
- 4. Take note of the value, DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES.
- 5. Run the following commands in Terminal (first make sure there is only one entry, from steps 2 and 4):
sudo defaults delete /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Info LSEnvironment
sudo chmod 644 /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Info.plist
sudo touch /Applications/Safari.app
sudo defaults delete /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/Info LSEnvironment
sudo chmod 644 /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/Info.plist
sudo touch /Applications/Firefox.app
- 6. Delete the files obtained in steps 2 and 4.
Additional Details
Trojan-Downloader:OSX/Flashback.C poses as a Flash Player installer and connects to a remote host to obtain further installation files and configurations.

To complete its installation/infection, Flashback.C requires the user to key in the administrator password.
On installation, the installer first checks if the following file is found in the system:
- /Library/Little Snitch/lsd
Little Snitch is a firewall program for Mac OS X. If the program is found, the installer will skip the rest of its routine and proceed to delete itself.
If the trojan is cleared to proceed, it connects to a remote host, identified as http://[...]93.114.43.31/counter/%encoded_strings%, with the decoded string following this format:
- %Hardware_UUID% | %machine_architecture% | %kernel_version% | %encoded_md5%
The %encoded_md5% is the hash of the following:
As of this writing, the remote host is up but it does not push anything.
Payload
Installation files and configuration returned by the host is encrypted using RC4, where the MD5 hash of the Hardware UUID of the infected system is used as the key. The decrypted content follows this format:
- %encoded_payload_filename% | %encoded_payload_content%
The installer drop copies of the payload to the following locations:
- /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/%payload_filename%
- /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/Resources/%payload_filename%
A DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES environment variable is also added to the targeted browsers as launch point. This is done by inserting a LSEnvironment entry to the corresponding Info.plist of the browsers.
Example:
- The following line is inserted into "/Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Info.plist":
- LSEnvironmentDYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES

- The following line is inserted to "/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/Info.plist":

The installer then restarts running instances of Safari and Firefox in order to take the payload into effect.
The installer also disables the built-in anti-malware feature in Mac OS X. It unloads the XProtectUpdater daemon, and then wipes out the following files:
- /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.xprotectupdater.plist
- /usr/libexec/XProtectUpdater
